Getting Started with Sortio
Learn how to use Sortio to organize your files with AI-powered sorting.
Installing Sortio
Sortio is available for macOS and Windows. Follow these steps to get started:

2Install the application on your computer

3Launch Sortio and sign in or create an account

Data Security
By default, Sortio uses our cloud (OpenAI) and sends filenames and metadata to our servers; file contents are sent only if you enable a content-based feature. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest, but not end-to-end. For sensitive files, use offline mode (Ollama) or bring your own API key, so nothing leaves your machine.
Backup Recommendation
We strongly recommend backing up important files before sorting. While Sortio has multiple levels of redundancy to protect your data, we cannot be responsible for any data loss.
One-Off Sorting
One-off sorting is perfect for organizing a specific folder quickly:

Select a Folder
Click "Select Folder" and choose the directory you want to organize

Provide a Prompt
Describe how you'd like your files organized (e.g., "Sort by project and file type" or "Organize my photos by date and location")

Configure Options
Choose whether Sortio should:
- Analyze file content (provides better sorting but takes longer)
- Rename files (applies more descriptive names based on content)

Review Sorting Plan
Sortio generates a preview of how files will be organized. You can:
- Edit the plan by moving files to different locations
- Approve the plan to begin sorting

Complete the Process
After sorting, you can:
- Undo the sorting if needed
- Finish and close the operation
Spaces
Spaces are folders Sortio watches. Any file moved into a Space is automatically indexed, sorted, and linked into the Knowledge Graph.
